By developing healthy partnerships with others who share in the desire to see people lives enriched and our communities growing. Tornados Hurricanes Mass Fires Floods Environmental hazard The Riverdale Area Ministries Alliance (RAMA) initially started as a group comprised of 6 churches that came together for the initial benefit to reach out to the local community of Riverdale, in Hampton, Virginia. Since the inception of this group in 2004 we have grown to incorporate into this group the local community’s Civic Association, the local Elementary School, and a local Business. RAMA is a Non-Profit Organization. Our initial purpose came about due to a tragedy that took place in the local community. Pastor Ruff of Cornerstone Assembly was concerned of the recent event that took place, heard from God, and called the Pastors of the local churches on Tide Milllane to meet. This meeting and same shared concern for this community initiated our first event that would take place within coming months. RAMA first event took place in May of 2004 during the City of Hampton Neighborhood Month. This event called Neighbors Seeking God’s Heart was a time of prayer for the community, and this took place in the local Elementary School. We invited the Mayor, Chief of Police, Fire Chief and many City officials. At the completion and success of this event we knew that God had placed us together not for only this one event but for the continued success of reaching out to the Riverdale community and also the city as a whole. We are now in partnership with the Volunteer Corps and the City of Hampton, VA. disaster plans in assisitng the city after a manmade or natural disaster strikes. RAMA will be responsible for setting up a command center for processing Volunteers wishing to offer help and use there skills and talents to ease some of the stress and pain of returning victims. The command center will also be a place for the victims to register as victims at the command center. The Red Cross will be working with RAMA to set up relief sites for food and temporary shelter and medical assistance sites. The command center will process all incoming relief organizations and relief materials and direct them to the proper locations where the City of Hampton needs them the most. This Organization is dependent on public support for supplies and money to assist others during the time of a crisis. RAMA will continue to train their staff volunteers to standards, so they will be able to assist the City and people of Hampton, VA. which will include Red Cross classes, CERT training from the State of Virginia, Online courses from FEMA, simulated training exercises. RAMA meets once a month, normally at 10:00 am. Our location changes with each month. Any building that a organization wishes to use as a shelter must be approved and certified by the city and the Red Cross. We are looking for continued growth through other churches and business who believe in reaching out to others in love. We understand that Jesus is soon to return and He is coming back for His Church.
